Philip E.V. Van Kerrebroeck was born in Louvain, Belgium. After receiving his doctorate in medicine from the University of Leuven, he trained in general surgery and urology in Belgium, the Netherlands and the United States. He became a registered urologist in 1984, received his M.D. from the University of Antwerp in 1992 and his M.D. from the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1993. He has been a member of the European Board of Urology since 1993.
In 1996, he was appointed professor of urology at Maastricht University. He was chairman of the Department of Urology at Maastricht University Medical Center from 1996 to 2011. His clinical interests include neurogenic and non-neurogenic functional problems of the lower urinary tract. His research interests include the development of new therapies in neuro-urology, such as neuromodulation and experimental pharmacotherapeutic approaches for the treatment of micturition dysfunctions, including nocturia and erectile problems.
Philip is a member of the board of directors of the International Continence Society and the European Urological Association, and is vice president of the EAU political bureau, leading the “Urge to Act” campaign for the EU.
He serves as a reviewer for 25 scientific journals, has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, and has published 82 books and book chapters in the fields of urology and cultural anthropology.
