Thoracoscopic Surgery Course

Faculty: Dariusz Patkowski, Anne-Sophie Holler, Piotr Czauderna, Sylwester Gerus, Dominika Borselle

Fee: 250 EUR (approx. 1100 PLN)

This course is designed as a 6-hour intensive hands-on workshop for a small group of 10 participants, allowing close supervision and practical training.

Main objective:
To provide participants with practical training in the fundamental techniques of thoracoscopic surgery. The procedures to be practiced include esophageal and lung surgery related to congenital malformations, including esophageal atresia, congenital pulmonary malformations and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Format:
The workshop combines short theoretical introductions with extensive hands-on practice. Participants work in pairs under faculty supervision to reproduce the key steps of each technique. The course also includes preoperative planning, surgical strategy and endoscopic suturing, using advanced simulators and porcine cadavers.

Target audience:
Residents or fellows in pediatric surgery, as well as pediatric surgeons.

Feedback:
At the end of the course, participants complete a satisfaction survey regarding the realism and usefulness of the training models and the overall course experience.

Practical Course in Endoscopic Impedance Planimetry (EIP)

Faculty: Tomasz Pytrus, Anna Kofla Dłubacz, Katarzyna Akutko

Fee: 150 EUR (approx. 650 PLN)

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Second Department and Clinic of Pediatrics and Nutrition, Medical University of Wrocław

Participants: 10

Course overview:
In clinical practice, EIP uses an endoscopic functional luminal imaging probe known as EndoFLIP (Medtronic). It allows assessment of the distal esophageal lumen and gastroesophageal junction, as well as measurement of the distensibility index at the lower esophageal sphincter and distal esophageal body.

Applications include:
Esophageal atresia, achalasia and eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).

Format:
The training begins with a theoretical introduction explaining how the method works. This is followed by presentation of various clinical cases in which planimetry is used in the endoscopic department.

Tracheal Surgery Course

Faculty: Lucia Gutierrez Gammino, Michele Torre

Fee: 150 EUR (approx. 650 PLN)

This course is designed as a 6-hour intensive workshop for a small group of 10–16 participants, allowing close supervision and hands-on practice. According to the preliminary plan, a course with this practical focus on pediatric tracheal surgery has not previously been organised in Poland.

Main objective:
To provide participants with practical training in the fundamental techniques of tracheal surgery, including tracheo-tracheal anastomosis, slide tracheoplasty, anterior and posterior laryngo-tracheal grafting, and tracheostomy.

Format:
The workshop combines brief theoretical introductions with extensive hands-on practice using ovine or porcine tracheal models. Participants work in pairs under faculty supervision. Depending on equipment availability, the course may also include preoperative planning, surgical strategy and postoperative endoscopic assessment.

Target audience:
Pediatric surgeons, otolaryngologists, and residents or fellows in pediatric surgery and ENT with an interest in airway surgery.

Additional materials:
Participants will receive a course manual prepared by the faculty, including surgical diagrams, step-by-step operative photographs, endoscopic images and clinical case discussions.
