Van Kerrebroeck was born in Louvain, Belgium. After receiving his doctorate in medicine from the University of Leuven, he trained in general surgery and urology in Belgium, the Netherlands and the United States. He became a registered urologist in 1984, received his M.D. from the University of Antwerp in 1992 and his M.D. from the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1993. He has been a member of the European Board of Urology since 1993.<br \/>\nIn 1996, he was appointed professor of urology at Maastricht University. He was chairman of the Department of Urology at Maastricht University Medical Center from 1996 to 2011. His clinical interests include neurogenic and non-neurogenic functional problems of the lower urinary tract.
